Seek Treatment Early By Knowing The Dog Liver
Disease Symptoms
There are many common dog liver disease symptoms you
can watch for. These symptoms can mean there is a problem with liver
disease. Your pet should be brought to the vet if the symptoms are
present for a proper diagnosis.
The liver is a big gland that helps the body with complex functions
and can cause other problems in the body if those functions aren't
working properly. The good news is the liver is capable of
regenerating itself. If the treatments are successful, your pet
stands a good chance of survival. Finding the symptoms early can
mean the difference between life and death for your pet.
Watching For Signs of Liver Disease in Dogs
When you are looking for signs, sometimes you will see all, some or
only one of the symptoms to be present. Other health problems can
have similar symptoms and the only way to truly know if your pet has
liver disease is with diagnosis.
If your pet has problems with abdominal or gastrointestinal upsets
that are intermittent or has a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea
or constipation, liver disease could be present. These symptoms can
lead to your pet becoming depressed and lethargic. Your pet will
often refuse to play any more and won't want to go for walks.
Another symptom is when your dog has a swollen belly with the look
of being "fluid filled". This is fluid that has accumulated in the
belly because of changes with the circulation.
Pigments from the liver is what makes a dogs poop brown and if your
dog's liver is not processing the bile properly, it will not have
their normal colors. Feces caused from inadequate processing with
the lover will be pale gray.
On the same token, if improper processing of the bile is taking
place, your dog will produce orange urine. Any pale or white skin
that is visible on your dog will have a yellow hue to it. The white
of the eyes are often affected, as well as the gums.
It is rare that there will be bleeding problems with your dog's
liver disease. If this does occur, it is because many of the
proteins required for blood clotting are created by the liver. If
these proteins are removed or decreased, blood will not be able to
clot as easily.
Your pet may handle the problems of the symptoms by exerting
behavior changes when it's time to eat. This is most likely to pain
associated with the abdomen and the stretching of the liver capsule.
If this problem is present, your dog will often yelp in pain when
picked up around the belly area.
Weight gain or loss that is not controllable can be caused by the
process of the liver building blocks that keep our body functioning.
Because of imbalances with the kidneys and shifts in serum, your dog
will have an increase in the amount of water consumption, and the
amount they urinate.
