Quality Dog Food And Your Dogs Health

by Jolie Mitchel

If you are willing to spend the extra money, high quality dog food has many benefits for the health and well being of your furry friend. Including the way they look and feel. You will notice these benefits almost immediately.

Don't you think your dog deserves to be treated as well as you treat yourself? Some of us feel they should be treated better. The cheaper the food is, the worse it is for them to eat on a daily basis. Many veterinarians have compared most of these commercially advertised dog foods to serving family and friends chopped up boxes with brown gravy. Sure their appetite will be filled, but the vitamins and minerals they need will just not be there. Be assured that once your dog becomes adjusted to the lower calories, and basic nutritional needs, he/she will most likely eat a lot less of the \"good stuff\", instead of gobbling up mass quantities of the other brands, (as most dogs tend to do).

The long and short term benefits of this upgrade are innumerable. Higher quality foods, including home made dog food recipes which are abundant and easy to find online if you search for \"home made dog food\", provide your animal with a shinier coat, clear eyes, normal bowel movements and a generally happier disposition.

Be aware that some dogs are highly allergic to some of the ingredients that are found in some of these low quality dog foods. With the better quality dog food, you may find that your dog doesn't \"itch\" as much, and you will find a lot less hair all over your house. Also, if your dog has \"ear problems\" (such as yeast build up), as many dogs tend to have, you will notice this problem improve immensely. Once they start ingesting all of the nutrients they need to improve their life, their bodies will heal a lot quicker after any accidents, or surgical procedures.

Have you ever tried to teach your dog a trick? Without much luck. Think of it like this, lets say your on a diet of garbage do you think after eating this for a while you are able to produce good work. It's the same for our fury little friends as well. Changing to a better quality food will help with all these problems.

I own a big and beautiful Saint Bernard. We adopted him after he was hit by a semi truck, no kidding, and walked away with just a scratch. After the stitches were in place his owner decided that he wasn't what they considered to be \"show quality\" and dumped him at a shelter. We brought him home and kept him on the generic brand food the shelter had been feeding him. He had a few raw spots on his legs and back that we attributed to a rash he'd acquired in the kennel. I took him back to the shelter to see what they recommended. A simple ointment was the suggestion I left with and after 2 weeks it had done no good. He had been steadily having loose bowel movements and I got worried. I took him to my vet and after a few minutes she came out with a diagnosis. He wasn't getting enough protein from the food in his diet. I upgraded to the next most expensive brand, thinking that a 180 pound dog would eat me out of house and home. His rashes got a bit better and a couple of them went away.

But I did not see the best results until I decided to buy him the highest quality food that his demeanor became calmer his itchy ear became under control and his bare spots became fully healed. Now he has a full shiny and healthy coat and has even gained 50 lbs.

I am a firm believer that your results are determined by what you put into it. Animals need to have a good diet as much or more than humans do. It's essential in every aspect of their being and to cheap out on the care you provide them is not only unnecessary and detrimental, but uncaring and neglectful.
