A Review Of Simple Home Remedies For Ear Mites In Pets
There are several home remedies ear mites will hate, but you will love. Pets often shake their heads and scratch their ears when the very tiny ear mites invade their ears. Since the mites are very contagious, if you have more than one pet in the home, all pets should be treated.
First look into the pets ears, if there is wax build up with tiny black specks, then it is mites. Start by cleaning the ears, with vegetable, mineral, or olive oil. Use an eyedropper or a medicine syringe, without a needle, to put the oil into the canal of the ear, try to keep the pet still. Then massage the ear thoroughly to loosen any deeply impacted ear mite dirt. Now clean out the ears with a cotton ball, a cotton swab can be used, but you have to make sure that the pet does not make any sudden moves and push the swab into the canal of the ear.
Ear cleaning can also be done with a diluted solution of water and vinegar, one part vinegar to 2 parts water. The vinegar and water will also help clean the ear as well as treat the mite problem. Still another formula to clean pet's ears is alcohol and peroxide, in equal amounts. The procedure is the same in all of the cleaning methods, put cleaner in the pets ears, massage and wipe with cotton balls. The Vinegar, alcohol or peroxide method should not be used if the ears are sore or ulcerated, as it will sting.
Now that the ears are clean, its time to start treatment. Putting oils into the ears smothers the mites. Corn, olive or mineral oil can be used. Also, almond or olive oil mixed with vitamin E has been found very effective. The oil and vitamin E should be mixed, 1/2 cup oil to 400 IU of vitamin E. The oil is applied and wiped with a cotton ball, the same using the same method as cleaning.
Yet another method is yellow dock root mixed with water. Use nine drops of extract with 1TBS water. With this type of treatment, the solution should be applied every other day, till the mites are gone. This may take a while, perhaps several months. Don't stop too early, as the mites have to go through a entire life cycle.
Four cloves of garlic, crushed into one cup of olive oil is another great treatment. Soak the garlic over night in the oil, discard garlic the next day and apply the garlic oil in of the ears. Ending with a good rub and cleaning with cotton. This oil is better if it is warmed a bit.
Home remedies ear mites will just hate, but you and your pet will love. All of these remedies are safe for your pet and environment, so try more than one.
